Posted:     Post subject: So i told my roommate...

I just found out i have it a couple weeks ago.

The first outbreak is the worst, and women get it worse than men... I've heard it all. But still. Who knew that kind of agony existed?!
My point is, I spent a week in my room, only leaving to run one of my 10 daily baths.
It was so painful when i walked, or sat, or urinated (tee hee hee) that I actually started singing little songs to distract myself.

So imagine you live across the hall from someone you havent seen in seven days. She said that if she hadn't heard me talking to myself in the bathroom at 3am she would have thought I was dead. For the record, I wasn't talking to myself. I made up a rap song titled "oh my god I don't want to piss."

So finally I see her, and she asks what's up cause I'm obviously having major walking issues. At this point I was just too exhausted to think of an excuse. So i blurted it out.

I actually surprised myself when I said it. Then I got tense and prepared for her to either call me a whore or freak out thinking she could catch it from the toilet seat. We don't get along super well.

She ended up being totally supportive. It blew me away. She admitted that she didn't know much about it and gave me a chance to share what i knew. The good and the bad. We talked for like an hour and shared a lot of things I never thought we would. It was actually a really positive experience.

In the end she offered to make me dinner! It's so nice knowing that I have support just down the hall, and that I don't have to hide it from someone I'm so close to physically. (and now so close to emotionally)

I hope it works out as well for you all as it did for me.

Sincerely, Virus'd in Victoria

~ Heather

`I know they say the first outbreak is the worst, but it wasn't for me. It was the same as all the subsequent ones. Oddly enough, I didn't experience an out break until after the results came back. I immediately told the my boyfriend at the time, and of course he denied it, but was a good sport about it.

My roommate and I are very good friends, and she was the only person I felt I could tell and not feel judged about it. I knew she knew me and wouldn't judge me. So it went well when I told her, and she listened to all I had to say. I just needed someone to talk to because I was so angry and felt so alone. Couldn't help but think "why me" you know?

It's always good to know that you do have a support system that you can depend on when you're having one of those days. I'm blessed to have friends that I can call when I get rejected after I break the news. Now that's the hardest part.

`I have been worried how a person would feel if i let a friend stay the night and shared the bed since there is pleanty of space. So far nobody has asked but i worry about it becoming an issue one night.

`My first outbreak was hell. I had the break out, a yeast infection, and a urinary tract infection. I couldn't sleep because I was in pain, itchy, and was never comfortable in any position I was situated in. I was never scared more in my life. I started getting symptoms within 24 hours of s----l contact of the person I received it from. I was an hour away from home staying in a family member's house and I thought I could trust and count on my best friend to pick me up to bring me to the doctor since I was so scared. I should have just talked to my parents because in the end, this bitch (excuse my language) turned her back on me and told other people she took me to the doctor, that I have herpes, and started calling me names such as a whore, slut, dirty, etc. She was never a true friend after three years of friendship. It hurts till this day but life goes on, I'm over it.

I do have other friends that know and openly accept my situation, but from here on I am really careful with whom I express this personal information with. Only three of my friends (that are STD free) know besides my parents and my boyfriend of course. I have a few other friends that know because they also have STD's themselves so I know we can relate on different levels to comfort each other.

`I don't know about it being any worse for either sex, cause depends on where it shows up at (mine was in a complete circle on my 1st outbreak), if pee runs down.... man fahgedaboudit! streching the skin to clean is a major bitch! even after having it going on 12yrs now! LoL. Now unless were going to get into a relationship, it's nun ya biz! simple as that. Only my sis & best friend knows. My moms doesnt even know. So just be careful, cuase I know some people who have no friends anymore. Some folks in the world are small minded and ignorant.

`Yes I know it is sad to see how ignorant people are when it comes to situations like this. Just because we have this STD, does not mean we have changed otherwise. We are still the same person.

Well I told my parents because I was 19 when I got it, and I still lived with my parents (now I live with my mom.) They provide my insurance and coverage for my medication since I am still in college so it was of my best interest to tell them. My parents never judged me and have always been there for everything I have come across in life.

As far as it being worse for either sex, I'm not sure. It seems to be just as awful for both genders. I couldn't tell the male had it when I had s-- with him but he claims he didn't give it to me and he called me a psycho bitch... crazy, ignorant people in this world. It's people like him that keep passing this disease to other people!

`Amen Pre! Only a psycho would know and just keep passing it on! But folks like him will get theirs in the end for hurting someone for no apparent reason. My situation was similar, but when I went back to comfront the chick, she had moved! U talk about livid! But after 12yrs, ive forgiven and moved on. What can you do but shake your head and pray fro the ignorant of the world.

`I just been diagnosed and wonder how much it concerns my friends as there are close enough to risk the infection by touching me or my things. I'm still reading about it but even if it seems to be hard to transmit there is no zero risk.
I don't feel like saying it yet that's for sure but how much is it my problem? My friend could share part of the responsibilities by making the proper precautions. It could also help to spread the word around. I've been with a s----l behavior at risk for a long time and realized now how much i did not want to hear about it... The taboo about it makes it easier to spread.
I have a conflict between hiding the shame and stop spreading the virus.
any thoughts?
