I would be private about my diagnosis but I would also be public about it to others that I know that I can trust. The only thing about being private about it, is that if you are interested in someone that may not be infected, then there is that problem of "How will I tell them?". 9 times out of 10, you will walk away from that situation of telling that someone of your diagnosis because you do not want to be judged.
I guess that is why I turned to this website....to seek someone that is as I am and hopefully find some one that is also compatible with me. Like one member stated, It's already tough enough for us living with this disease we don't need any more stress in our lives trying to go back and forth about being private or public.
However, I DO BELIEVE that if you are trying to have relations with a person (unprotected or protected), you MUST tell them what your are living with.

I'd personally be okay with either. I am pretty open about my herpes status, and a lot of my friends, S-- friends, and family know. I am open because well obviously i wanted the people i was having S-- with to know, and family. My friends because i had read stuff online about sharing and feared they'd get it. I prefer them to be somewhat open, and atleast be able to talk about it with me, i mean we aren't always going to be talking about it and telling everyone. (:
