I've heard lots of good things about an amino acid called Lysine. It's in a bunch of protein rich foods.

That link might actually be pretty helpful. The site has a lot of information and a fairly active chat room/support group.

`It does help, however,it also raises Cholestrol levels ,so can be dangerous for some folk, or for long term daily use.

`Nothing I know of actually kills the virus. Several things seem to help. Lysine is one. A regamine of essential vitamines (for adults) seem to help. Exercise helps a lot. Foods... Stewed tomatoes in any form (recommended by my Dr.).

`If you have an outbreak I know tree tea oil works really well... Cuts the outbreak time in 1/2 if not more. Lysine is really good..but I do take a prescription medication everyday.

`I'm new to this... Infected idea but I definitely read up on the lysine and talked to my doctor she said to try it out and just be sure they monitor my cholesterol. L-lysine is the best kind (according to her) and I've just started taking it.

`The best resource I've seen is a book called Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Phyllis A. Balch. It is a big book that deals with all sorts of maladies. Has a great section on Herpes. L-Lysine is definitely a great amino acid for battling the virus. Olive Leaf Extract, Astragalus, and a ton of other options before you have to go tearing into Acyclovir. It also tells you what to avoid. I read somewhere that Provolone Cheese has about 1000mg of L-Lysine per slice...I am 75% sure about having seen that. Good luck and get that book!
